Assignment #2 Photographs
This was a photo I took while my friend Caitlin was playing her guitar she named Mumbles. I was playing around with angles. I ended up really liking the outcome. |

For my second success story, I am going to write about two of my favorite things; music and my friends. Moving back here from San Diego has gotten me back into the local music scene. Western Massachusetts has a great local music scene. There are a lot of very talented musicians trying to make it big, and trying to share their love and passion for music. There is a website that many local musicians use, and it's called Reverbnation. This website helps musicians not only get their music heard, but they can post bios, videos, music tracks, photos, and events/venues that they will be performing at. The website offers fans to comment, and give feed back to the musicians. Fans can also add the musician and rank them. Each local area has a top twenty ranking system, to show, and offer some help in finding great musicians in each individuals local area.

On a page such as this one, you can become a fan, like the artist on Twitter, Facebook, email an artist, and share the artist's music. All of these give the musician a following; that ranks them higher on the local charts, that you can also find in the Advocate (The Pioneer Valleys local event calendar/tabloid). Artists like Seth, can also sell their music on Reverbnation. Currently Seth is selling his music, and 50% of the proceeds go to a charity called Water.

I have many local talented friends that use this site to help get their music known. Seth is currently ranked top 5 in the local charts. My friend Eric Paquette is ranked top 10, along with an acquaintance of mine Carolyn Walker.

Please check it out and support your local artist. In the words of Shakespeare“, If music be the food of love, play on.”
Assignment #1 Tough Mudder Facebook Success
For my first two blog entries, I am going to be writing in
response to Professor Kang's, (who I call Dr. Nook), first assignment
for our communication technology class. The basics of the assignment
is to write about two organizations that have been successful in web
advertising/promotion. It has taken me some time to select two topics
for this assignment. I really wanted to pick topics that would be
interesting to my readers, as well as interesting to me.
The Tough Mudder is an endurance ten mile plus obstacle course race. It was designed by the British Special Forces, to challenge the runner on their stamina and mental motivational senses. The Tough Mudder uses Facebook to advertise, spread the word about new events, and get more people to sign up for the races. All of which builds awareness to future and past runners. In the article I read, (http://fbrep.com/SMB/SMB_CaseStudy_ToughMudder.pdf), It gave me great insight into how they built their page. They explained that images were important. They made their Tough Mudder Logo the Facebook profile picture, and featured pictures of the competitors running the course as their cover photo.
They also created an event tab for easy navigation, so that future and past runners can easily find a destination for a race, and sign up for the race of their choice. They also use the advertising that you can find around the edges of the Facebook page. Real ads they generated to get more people to go to their Facebook page, and sign up for races. Facebook uses an individuals likes to generate each Facebook users ads. For example, If I liked another kind of obstacle type race, like The Spartan, The Muddy Buddy, or other kinds of races; The Tough Mudder would show up as a suggested like, and advertisements would show up on the sides of my main screen. This has helped increase The Tough Mudders outcome at their races. They have had 24 times more awareness of their events. Therefore, 24 times more competitors due to their success in Facbook advertisements. Which has helped their overall sales by 24 times, and just in the past two years. All just a great reminder to, "Never Give UP!"
